I must have listened to this track a dozen times that day, and at least a hundred more times over the next few months. It was exactly what I needed to hear.
Itâs time for you, Israel, for you, child of God, to move on!
Each time I heard Steven say this line, I felt the Holy Spirit prompting me to take on the confidence to keep pressing forward despite my abrupt and untimely loss. I felt some guilt about the idea of âmoving on,â as though I was somehow abandoning our dreams, but at a deeper level, I knew it was right; it resonated in my soul.
What did âmoving onâ mean to me? It certainly didnât mean forgetting Wynter. It meant not giving up on the Kingdom dreams that we shared. It meant going forward in my life while holding on to all the gifts that she had given to me during our years together. Like Jacob, I needed to set up a memorial to Wynter before I moved onâa memorial that consisted not only of mourning, but of honor and celebration for the person she was and what she meant to me. Jacob moved forward, but he did so by embracing Rachelâs impact on his life, never forgetting the blessing of her love and the trust in Godâs promises that they shared. Before he moved on, he set up a pillar to memorialize the woman he had loved so dearly.
Though the Bible dispenses with the passing of Rachel in a single verse, I am 100 percent certain that there continued to be, for a time, a sizeable emotional and psychological struggle for Jacob. But he trusted God, he set up a memorial, and he kept moving forward. I knew that was exactly what I needed to do, while at the same time treasuring every memory and every reminder of Wynterâs life, valuing the impact she had on my life and on those of Alena, Kaitlyn, Camryn, and Olivia⦠as well as all the nameless girls who had been touched by For Girls Like You, and all her family and friends.
That unexpected voice on my playlist had been just what I needed in order to assess where I wasâ¦and where I needed to go. Iâm thankful that a few months later I was able to talk with Steven Furtick by phone and personally thank him for the message that so clarified my life at this difficult juncture.
With all my pain, I knew I needed to keep moving on. And I knew that this is exactly what Wynter would have wanted. Moving on meant moving forward while holding on to all things that were eternal. Our love, our family, our ministry, and anything else that God would allow to remain eternally and in history because of what we had together and in God.
